Right, all done with 1 can today. It was pretty easy and i think anyone with hands should be able to do this if they wanted.
First off, i warmed the car up to about half running temperature. I then proceeded to unbolt the intercooler boost pipe on the right hand side of the engine. This is held on with 2 accessible allen key bolts. http://i608.photobucket.com/albums/t...616_093231.jpg
Next, i unplugged the MAF sensor on the front left side of the engine bay http://i608.photobucket.com/albums/t...616_093957.jpg
Then, i set up the Wynn's EGR3 with some silicon hose to spray it into the inlet. I later opted to spray it in directly as i was concerned the hose was reducing the spray from a mist to more of a stream. It is however a fair bit easier, bit i wanted to do the most thorough job i could.
I continued spraying the product into the inlet in small bursts until the can was empty. I'd advised occasionally pushing the boost pipe back on a bit as the product tends to pool a bit on the throttle body flap and the boost air pushes this into the manifold. Inlet cleaning.mp4 - YouTube
So, all in all a pretty easy job and i cant really see any reason i wont do this periodically to keep the carbon build up at bay. I know its not for everyone, but after doing it im happy to do it again. I looked into the manifold before and after and to be honest it doesn't look much different. The ports however did look a bit more 'defined' so i think it has cleaned some carbon off of those. The engine does feel a bit smoother, but how much of that is placebo effect i don't know. During all of this, i didnt get any fault codes, even with the MAF disconnected
Would i do anything different next time?
Yes. There are a few things i'd do differently next time.
1- There is a large O-ring (part No. 14464581)
on the metal boost pipe, this swells and would not go back in after the job was done. It then split, so i have now ordered a replacement from Alfa for £6 + VAT
If i was doing this for the first time, i'd buy a replacement ready for the job.
2-Next time i would not pre warm the engine. Towards the end of the treatment, the throttle body shut due to being up to full temperature stopping me spraying the EGR3 in
3- I'd try and get the correct EGR3 hose to spray it in.
