And the cost to buy the bits? And amount of labour needed?
Gaskets, banjo bolt, and both oil lines: EUR 101 = GBP 82
Garrett turbo: EUR 833 = GBP 677
I mounted It myself, but I would say 2-3 working hours labour (incl. oil change)
Exactly what i wanted to know.
Does it need any software changes? Or a re-re-map?
And i take it i need to drain the oil first?
Funny you mention re-re-map, because thats exacly what I did
I had it already remapped at a Dutch tuner (Squadra-Tuning). However not every 200hp 2.4JTDm can be remapped to the max (220hp). When the max power was programmed on my 159, the turbo pressure became instable, so maximum tuning was set to 210hp. This is 20hp gain because all 159 2.4 200hp versions have only 190hp from factory
More info on 200hp version here (google translated from Dutch to English):
I did the turbo change because I lost oil pressure, and the KKK turbo died.
To bad, but good time to upgrade!
After I fitted the Garrett turbo on the 159 it already pulled great below the 2000rpm, already a big improvement on the KKK Borg Warner without software change!
Took it back to the tuner and result is now more than 235hp!
The tuner says it now behaves exacly like a 210hp version, without the need for the 210hp version injectors or bigger DPF.
So best to consult your tuner first, but I will recommend it, and because its already tuned they will probably do it for little money.
About the oil:
YES DRAIN IT and change the oil and air filters!!!!
Reason: you don`t want to destroy your new Garrett turbo with old oil or clogged filter!!!!
