Help 159 2.4 210 rough idle at cold

Hi All,
After reviewing all posts on the matter, I thought best to ask the forum about my dilemma.

Our 2.4 (210) 159 suffers from a stutter when started from cold.
It struggles to hold idle and runs very rough.

It is remedied with a some throttle and warming it up. Once warm it runs rather smooth.

Also upon start up we tend to get a burst of soot from the exhaust.

Would the EGR valve need a clean or do the injectors need to be replaced?

We have done the glowplugs recently after getting that warning.

Would injector cleaner aid?

any other ideas, thanks in advance

Hello Hendrik!

I had and still have the same problem but somewhat less intrusive. Made tons of research on this, also made a lot of work on my car. I could not solve it, but I'd like to share the experience.

Work done on my car: cleaning of intake and swirl valves cleaning and check, additive cleaning for injectors later ultrasound cleaning, fuel lines and fuel pump cleaning, egr first cleaning then blinding and deleting, dpf removal. Also had compression check and valves check which was ok. MAF sensor ok. After all that, problem is not so prominent any more, but is still there.

Wish you luck solving it! If you manage, please share.

Advice I got after all that - sir, get a new engine or a new car, or learn to live with it. I'm living with it for now.

hendrick789: you are probably going to go through the list.

MAF clean.
MAP clean.
EGR clean.
Injector treatment.
Check all vacuum and turbo hoses for leaks.

ECU Reset as follows:-

1. Disconnect battery for 45 mins
2. Reconnect battery, and turn ignition to MAR for 90 secs
3. Turn off and leave 90 secs
4. Start engine WITHOUT pressing throttle and let the car idle for 15 mins (I repeat, do not touch the throttle whilst the car is idling)
5. Turn engine off and leave for 10 minutes
6. Start the car and go for a drive, using a number of styles (eg town, motorway, thrash etc)

If you are competent download the free version of FiatECUScan, load onto a laptop, buy a kkl or elm lead and check the ECU for fault codes. You can do that very cheaply.
