Testing EGR and 'Throttle body' off car

Hi guys,

is it possible to test the operation of the valves and flaps of the egr valve and the throttle body off the car ? Is it as simple as putting a voltage across the terminals in the connector ?

Dont really want to try it on the only ones I have incase it damages them, so, if anyone has done it could you let me know ?

You should be able to do this with the EGR but I wouldn't risk it with the throttle body as it operates with more precision and also will need re-calibrating afterwards (not sure if 159 can do this itself but on my previous VWAG cars need doing manually through diagnostics port).
