Been having issues with loss of power for a couple of weeks - first time it happened I was driving up a hill fairly quickly, but not thrashing it. Began as an apparent missfire, htne cleared, then EML came on and Limp Mode activated. Parked up - limp mode cleared, but EML stayed on. I had the ecu read - came up with a P0237 low boost sensor A circuit Low. After the initial fault cleared itself, the car drove fine for about ten days, then same thing happened again. Codes read again, same fault. Garage cleared the code - I said I would go away and research the problem. Found all the threads on here regarding the EGR and DPF and manifold problems, then found the thread about the low/weak battery causing similar symptoms. Further research, and taking the route of least cost first, lead me to change the battery today for a brand new one. Took car for a spin to see if any different - initially no change, but the longer the drive went on the more the car seem to improve.
Whilst moderately powering up a steep incline at about 3500 rpm in third it went Bang, Rattle, rattle, rattle, cough, splutter, missfire and sudden loss of power to the point where I thought it was going to die. Dipped the clutch and let it coast at tickover and it seemed to settle down. Gently drove 15-20mph for about 300 yards to a layby and sat and listened to it - sounded fine on tickover - no apparent nasty noises. Blipped the throttle, very slow to pick up, but, no rattles or missfires. Thought I would chance limping home ( I live at the bottom of the hill about 3 miles away) Coasted down the hill in 4th at about 40mph - fine. Drove about a mile along the flat at about 30 mph in 3rd and 4th - sounded fine but very little power available. Get out to have a listen to the engine - can hear a rattle ( seem to be from the top - tappets/followers/rockers/lifters) so turned it off quick !
EGR has not been cleaned yet - no idea when it last re-gen'd the DPF ( It did chuck a huge amount of white/pale grey smoke out the back about 6 wks ago but only once for about 2 or 3 mins and not done it since) Manifold has not yet been checked for clogging - I have the plastic manifold - not the metal one - not cleaned out any of the induction system nor the injectors.
Car is a 1.9 JTDm, just turned 5 years old with 52,000 on the clock, full dealer service history ( although this appears from the forums that it aint worth the paper it is printed on ! ) Has had oil, oil filter and fuel filter changed 9 days ago and air filter done yesterday ( air filter had to be ordered in) I have owned the car for 6 months and do mainly local and fast 'A road' milage - not huge distances - bear in mind the Isle of Man is only 30 miles long !
Any ideas ? I know there will be lots
Thanks Guys !
