Hello again uncle munkle
We have had chats before on the 166 forum.
I recently returned to Alfa ownership having endured Peugeot and Subaru for a couple of years.
Before you go for a 159 I thought it might be useful to let you know how they compare....
You'll be glad to know the 159 is as well built as the 166 and feels as Solid on the road. While driving my initial impression was that I was sat in a toy car with some giant holding the roof and pushing me along. It really does feel planted on the road
There is no cassette option ha ha. So the stash you undoubtably built up over the years will have to give way to these newfangled CD type things, or even an iPod.
The visibility is good, but the car is very much smaller than a 166 and it often feels like the rear view mirror will slap your head if you look away for a moment.
I have the Lusso spec with leather but unlike the 166 the seats are not heated or electronic. I'm sure some are. But all 3 of my 166's even the 1 with cloth had heated seats.
The boot is big but a bugger to load. The 159 was designed more for beauty than practicality The aperture is small to allow for those lovely rear lines. Looks great but I can't get some of my holiday suitcases in.
Engine range is huge, I'm self employed now so the emphasis is on frugal. I have a 1.9jtdm. 2008 model. It's 150bhp is ample and around town is returning 31mpg. I'm off on a 300mile round trip to Cambridge next week and looking forward to returning over 45mpg.
If you have any specific comparisons you'd like please ask.
On the whole I'd say you've made a good decision. Go for it.
Loving being back in alfa ownership!!
