Had the tray off this morning to work on the exhaust/turbo joint and thought whilst off I'd check filter. Mine too was quite wet on one side. Happened to be on one of the sides with the raised lip. Closer examination showed water actually sitting in the outer lip and the light rubber seal cacked up with oily grime. I think what is happening is poor seal letting mist through in harsh weather driving, which we have had a lot of this week!
Cure [I hope]: lift seal out of bottom plastic plate. Clean out groove. Wipe clean rubber seal carefully as it is very thin. Lightly coat seal and lip with waxoyl. Clean bottom lip of air box. Put all back carefully especially making sure seal is in same place as before as it is shaped to fit the bottom plate.
Hope this cures. Will check in a couple of months time but with warmer drier weather on the way [hopefully] might not see problem again till autumn.
