Water in Brera spare tyre recess.

Recently I've been suffering from quite a bit of condensation on the rear window. I attributed it to the short journeys and changeable weather. Then today I rotated my tyres to try and spread the wear.

I lifted back the boot liner and removed the polystyrene jack holder to find my spare tyre almost completely submerged in water about 3 inches deep!!

The boot carpets are all dry and there is no visible source for this water or dampness around the wheel recess. Does anybody have any ideas how so much water could collect under the boot without making the boot itself wet?

I had the opposite with mine. The carpets were soaked with very lttle water actually in the tyre well. It happened during the really heavy rain over the winter. The garage replaced the rear light cluster under warranty as this is often a weak point. I couldn't find any trace of where the water was coming from though - it was just the folding piece of carpet over the spare wheel which was completely sodden.

There are 2 rubber grommets on the inner side of the bootwell, about an inch in diameter. Make sure they make a good seal. I think the tyre being fitted into the bootwell catches the grommet and dislodges it, hence allowing rainwater to get in.
Hope this helps.
