I changed my n/s upper wishbone last year, and had problems getting the torx bolts out as the bolt heads were hitting the (more closely on a TI) wound coils of the spring, before they were fully wound out of their threads. The gaps between the coils was too small to do this. (I don't think this is a problem on non TI models... but am not sure)
Briefly what I did was let the hub hang free (opening the gap in the coil spring ), and I made up 2 wooden wedges, placed one between the coils at an appropriate point on each side where it would line up with the bolts when the spring was compressed, then using the trolley jack under the lower wishbone, jacked up the hub until the gap that the wooden wedge had held open was level with the bolt, and then unscrewed the bolt through the gap. I hope this makes sense?
Also I found that I was unable to use a female torx socket due to lack of room, and ended up using a torx ring spanner.
It took me about 1.5 hours.
