Literally just had both the clutch and DMF changed only last week....£1200 down
Work was done by the excellent Jamie and his gang at Alfa Workshop. Was told that he had done a clutch the week before and the DMF was ok but it won't be seen until the car was stripped to get to the clutch. I hoped.....
I was disappointed. He showed me both the clutch and the DMF and they were both shot to pieces.....I even had the damage explained to me. There is two types of wear that can happen apparently. Some places mistake one type for the other and change the DMF when it doesn't need to be, so beware and make sure you know that the people doing the change know their stuff. But there is both vertical and lateral movement and damage that can occur....wasn't entirely sure which was good and which was bad, but mine had both! So, was a no brainer to change it.
Not only did it stop the slipping, but the car was transformed. Lightened clutch with a completely different (and smoother) biting point, no "grinding" between gear shifts.....its beautiful.
Also, make sure they change the clutch and DMF WITH the slave cylinder....there are two kits, one with, one without.
Oh and lastly......my clutch was slipping badly in the top 4 gears for weeks.......and then it stopped.....couldn't get it to slip at all, just as reported by some here. Jamie said that this could have been a bad omen and maybe we caught it just before it went bang in a big way.....you have been warned!!!
Good luck and hope you have saved enough in your Alfa piggy bank.......thats this years holiday gone for us......
