Well just one small plate on the EGR valve has made so much difference
As mentioned previously my fuel economy has been dreadful and no better after an Adie AHM special.
I recently removed the EGR valve body and cleaned it all and then replaced it with a blanking plate. It had been closed by Adie during the remap DPF removal but as mentioned I was suspicious that although closed electronically it was still physically open. This proved to be the case and I closed it when refitting with a blanking plate bought from Sleazebay.
Anyway I have done nothing else to the car and its returning much better MPG straight away.
120 miles London to Birmingham the other week with me driving and the Mrs Co pilot. Probably doing about 80 mph once on the M40 and got a return of nearly 41 mpg loads better than the last trip which was 35.5 mpg. Coming back the wife drove the first 65 mile and probably kept it to around 70-75 mph and drove into town a bit quicker. Filled up again near home and couldnt believe it when calulated it at 46 mpg. Both these were brim to brim as the computer still thinks the car runs on air. Did however notice that the computer although totally wrong had increased its MPG figures to match roughly the cars new more frugal actual mpg... interesting. i.e. the computer was saying 46 mpg it now says 50 mpg I was getting 36 i am now getting 40.
I still think there may be further room for improvement but this is very encouraging and it nice to think my hard work is beginning to pay off.
Did another trip back from Norfolk the other day 150 miles and got slightly less about 38.5 mpg but I was doing 85 - 90 mph so I dont think thats too bad.
It looks like if I can keep it to 80 or less then 40+ mpg is now easily achievable.
I am intending to remove the throttle body in a few weeks and clean that... every little helps.
Finally i was going to have the BG inlet clean done but not sure if its now worth the money as things have improved so much. If anyone thinks its still worth the money and I would get a further improvment let me know.
I will be contacting Adie to let him know about the blanking plate as this is something I think should be done to all cars having the remap, dpf removal especially higher mileage ones where the egr valve could be stuck open with soot build up.
I will at some point open a whole new thread to highlight this very important and easy fix.
Cheers to all
