Zulu, how many miles are on your clock ? Has the mpg been consistently 35mpg, or thereabouts ?
What year is it ? Perhaps a later ECU firmware would help with fuel efficiency,
It's a 09 plate, and has had the firmware upgrade to the ECU. 42k miles on it currently, and fuel economy has been pretty much static since I got it.
It gets much worse pootling about town (28mpg) and highest I ever managed was 40mpg over 500 miles on a trip to Cornwall. If I do 50-60 on a country road, taking it easier I'd expect to get a better mpg, but it doesn't seem to be the case, thrashing it on a motorway actually returns better figures, go figure.
Its a FIAT group engine... but yes its still not very efficient in the Alfa.
Yup, you're right, it just amazes me that they put the engine in GM cars and it's much more efficient.
Take any modern VW and you'll get 50mpg easily, and no 'lag' before 2000rpm that I also seem to suffer from.
Again, 2 dealers and an independent have looked and can't find anything wrong.
When I got the car I looked at a Giulietta, but wasn't sure it would be big enough (They had just been launched at the time).
I reckon I could have got the 1.4TB petrol and running costs would have been lower, and no diesel rattle.
I need to keep the car for another 12 months, so will definitely be looking at what else is about nearer the time. Am guessing the 'Giulia' probably still won't be launched by then, so may look at the smaller car, or dare I say it something German
My main gripe is that my GT had the same engine and was smoother, quicker (yes I know it was lighter) and I got much better economy from it.
