You will NOT get agreement which remapping company or option is best as views here are very polar or is that bi-polar.
Removal of DPF could become a retrospective MOT failure - car has had it's emmission control system tampered with and for an 08 car a law on that could be retrospective.
Assuming the law changes you have two or possibly three choices:-
1. Angel remap and the innards are bashed out - that will take a bit of spotting at MOT so you may avoid a failure. However, your DPF is destroyed so a failure is VERY expensive as it will need a replacement DPF.
2. AHM and a lot of others replace the DPF with a straight pipe and give you the old DPF. A failure is the cost of refitting the DPF.
3. AHM remap and just refit the original DPF for the MOT and remove it after. Bit of faffing about but.......
I have had both an Angel and an AHM remap. Angel on a 2.4 130 bhp 10V 156 and AHM on a 200bhp 2.4 JTDM 159.
I could not recommend one over the other as they were both amazing (that may be because the engines and cars are quite different) but mentally I take comfort that the AHM map is provided by a seriously competent engineer who race prepares and maintains these cars. Angel are "just" a remapping company, though if you think about that, they are still dependant on reputation and if you search the web I don't think you will find any complaints.
Think about the possible future, make your choice and pay your money or choose to do nothing.
I feel to chime in here, angel don't just bash the innards out, they will also weld in a replacement pipe if you ask. they don't do it as standard because it has no performance benefit....so what's the point. (apart from being afraid of the MOT man)
also they don't "just map" cars, they are also responsible for the assembly and tuning of the jenson interceptor, their engineers are as competent as id feel judging. so i wouldn't feel un-easy about them working on my car, just slightly richer as it doesn't cost as much! And as you said i couldn't find any complaints about them...i sat in their office for 4 hours while they did mine, very nice people. although, Motor Mech only seem to sell angels pre-written maps, you should really go to the centre in banbury for the proper angel service and a properly tweaked map...
(btw ive had my 159 angel tuned in banbury, DPF whacked out and EGR blanked....it goes like a rocket)
Equally, AHM have a brilliant rep and i haven't seen any problem reported as a result of their services. from the conversation i had with them before going to angel, they seemed excellent! but i cant comment personally, as i used angel in the end
