IMHO the problem with warranties is that you relinquish control over what happens. You don't get any say over what gets fixed, and by whom.
For example, say if the clutch started to go in my soot blower, I would want:
1) An Alfa specialist that I know and trust to do the work
2) The DMF replaced whilst they are in there
Yes, that will be more expensive, but if you intend to keep the car for a while, probably worth it. The question is whether you could get the same thing under a warranty scheme?
