Sorry for the long post.
Went to change the pads and discs on my wife's 159 yesterday as she was off to her parents with daughter and my son was at a Beavers thing from 10am until 2pm.
To say it didn't go to plan would be an understatement.
Hopefully, someone can learn from my mistakes.
Once I'd dropped the boy off I went and bought a pad retaining pin removal tool. I then took the car to the local hand wash so it was nice and clean to work on as it was filthy. In hindsight I should have known it would take a lot longer to do the discs/pads and should have left washing the car.
Anyway, got home, got all the equipment and parts out of the garage, jacked the car up and removed a wheel. Checked pads to make sure they were correct and then remembered I needed the copper grease. Could I find it? I only did the brakes on my Touareg a few months ago and had some then. Searched for ages but then gave up. Put the wheel back on, put everything back in the garage and went off to Halfords.
Came back with copper grease, got everything out of the garage again, went to take the wheel off and couldn't find the locking wheel nut key. Searched all over the place but couldn't find it. Realised I must have left it on the bolt and drove off with it on there. Looked around outside my house but couldn't see it. As I wouldn't be able to do anything without it I decided to pack everything away again
in the garage and go and look for it down the road out of desperation. If it wasn't within a couple of hundred yards then I'd give up.
As luck would have it, got to the entrance to our Close and there it was in the middle of the road! Happy days (or so I thought).
Went back home, got everything out AGAIN, took the wheel off, made sure I could loosen the caliper retaining bolts and then tried to get the pad retaining pins out. Tried and tried, used GT85, got a bigger hammer and still wouldn't budge. By this time it was 1.30pm so I had to give up and put everything back so I could pick my son up. So now I've got to go through this all again next weekend!
Later that evening, I decided to change the headlight bulbs for some brighter ones per the other thread that's currently running. I don't know if it's particular to the 2.0 Jtdm 159 but the passenger side headlight cover is blocked by a rather large bunch of cables which mean you can't get the cover off. So I then had to try and replace the bulb through the small opening that I could make. Took ages (not helped by being in the dark!) but eventually got there. Driver's side was easy.
I'd also moved my son's Isofix seat into the front earlier in the day and could I get it to latch on in the back again? Took me ages to do that too.
Really wasn't my day.
Still, nothing damaged (other than my knuckles doing the bulb).
PS I also had to go through the humiliation of my wife asking if I'd done it all when she got home and me telling her I hadn't actually done any of it! "What have you been doing all morning" she said. I couldn't respond in front of the kids!
