So, I traded in my beloved 2.0 TS 156 SW for a 2.0 JTDm TI 159 SW just over 2 weeks ago. Iíd had the 156 for 10 years and almost 150,000 miles and in that time it had never let me down, and there was not much wrong with it at the end that a little tlc couldnít put right Ė itís next service, discs and pads all round, replacing some of the underseal and a new set of tyres. So it was with some sadness, not to say trepidation, that I changed it.
But am I pleased with the 159? Well, 1000 miles in and itís a dream! I did have some reservations about the clearance with the lowered suspension, side skirts and longer front axle overhang, but, if anything, itís better than the 156 at clearing the Berkshire pot-holes and speed bumps. I havenít bottomed it once Ė yet, although mud does get thrown up along the side! Also, I was a little worried about the sport seats, being a bit larger than some in that area, but once Iíd sorted out the myriad of seat adjustments theyíre very comfortable.
Sure, the ride is hard, and itís a bit noisy, especially on concrete surfaces, but the handling is impeccable (for my sedate style anyway!) The gear change is a pleasure Ė far better than the 156 Ė although I have got to get used to no. 6.
Roll on the summer and taking it across France!
