Replacement parts to cure knocking noise

I have a knocking noise on the front of my 159. Now reading various threads it could be one of several parts thats gone, and as the local garage confirmed its basically just trial and error, which could be pricey.

Is it possible to get cheaper non alfa parts for the various parts of the suspension that we would need to look at?

The upper wishbones are prone to knocking. Mine were shot at 70k. Any reputable garage should be able to identify a worn ball joint / bush... Trail and error method wouldnt wash with me

Trial and error suggests they dont know what they are doing - take it to a reputable indie. Its fairly obvious when the bushes are shot - jack car up and look for yourself - you will notice lateral play.

I went to the garage with my 159 because of knocking in front. Guys were capable quite accurately to determine what is worn out by levering with crowbar when my car was up on the lift.

It was upper wishbones on both sides. Exchanged both and knocking is eliminated completely.

I'm sure that a decent mechanic can see and feel which part has play. If they recommend trial and error - go to another garage.

For the parts - try shop4parts (google it). Good prices and usually a choice between a pattern part and genuine.
