would anyone recommend giving the new one another coat of clear enamel or lacquer, just to build up the protection layers ? mine is looking all chipped and nasty. if the badge had embossed edges then you could just take the badge off and clear the old paint out and paint it again with enamel paint from hobby shop.

Alfa Romeo 159

Great advice and very straightforward

Just did this for myself and quite pleased with the result.

Been looking at these on eBay. Am I right in thinking the post facelift 147 one is the exact same size as the Brera/159? 166 one looks slightly larger? Wanting to replace the non-button rear one.

As far as I am aware, all the Alfa Romeo logo badges(mid/late 80s-onwards) are all the same diameter, but the rear fitment varies on a fair few of them. The current offerings are all mostly thin pressed aluminium with only a tiny amount of paint/enamel and lacquer....older badges were more solid using much more enamel, hence why they lasted a fair bit longer than current ones!

Correct - the alfa badge used on plastic bumpered alfasud sprints and 33's from 1984 onwards (as well as nearly every other alfa produced from that time) is the same size and they last decades, indeed that's what I have fitted to both my (prefacelift) 156's. However I recollect that from the facelifted 156 onwards the badge is slightly bigger, so no luck there.
