ever since i've owned my alfa (bout 6 weeks) its been hard to start in the cold, as in first start of the day, i thought this was just down to diesel being a bit thick and the very cold weather we've had, combined with a dodgy glow plug or two....now its warmed up a bit, its still hard to start when cold.
If i wait till pre-heat light is off, then start it, it feels like its firing on 3 or 4 cylinders, then a few seconds later its purring on all 5. it starts with a mini-plume of white smoke (its had DPF/ERG removal and angel remap)
Once its warm it starts no problem, with no smoke and when running it pulls HARD and smoothly. Also when idling when up to temperature, it will be smooth, then a little shake every 10, 20 30 seconds or so ( a bit random)
Today i went to check my glow plugs, having bought two (i expected two possibly to be dead). but all 5 read 0.5Ohms...
I've run all manor of additives through the fuel, each one making a significant difference, including the raved about BG244, which ironically seems to have done nothing (but i think this is probably because it was already pretty clean after all the other additives that have run through).
After running loads of additive through it. i did a full service. only thing not changed is fuel filter (although it was supposedly changed at 73k, im on 76k now), mainly because ive started running biodiesel, and your supposed to run it for 1000miles or so then change the fuel filter, im on 300 miles of bio....
It starts rough no matter what fuel is in it, tesco, shell normal, bio, shell v-power....or concoctions....all the same
