I had a bit of this notchey pedal the other day when I was forever in traffic jams in London. I figured it was the fact I'd put my old mats back in for winter and not fixed them down properly so my heal and pedal were jamming.
I got down on my back in the footwell last night and saw there's a fair bit of grease sprayed on the metal pedal shaft where it goes into the black plastic thing. I've got a creaky pedal and could feel a definite resistance pushing with my hand after about 10mm, it's kind of notchey, something is fouling inside the black plastic bit.
Anyway I got my Wurths HHS 5000 lube out, sprayed it, creaking has gone and it's not notchey anymore. See how long it lasts.
