step change at 3,000 rpm

Why would my 1.9 jdtm pick up a step change in acceleration (and quietness / refinement) at just under 3,000 revs?

It only seems to do this on partial/gentle throttle. When you put foot down enough to get over 3k but without giving it a bootfull it definitely seems to step up the pace. It's not massive but noticeable.

If you give it a bootfull then it passes through 3k cleanly.

It seems worse or more noticeable in 1st and 2nd but that's not to say it isn't there, just less noticeable possibly due to higher gear masking the change.

It also seems to become less noisy and coarse.

It's as if a switch has been flicked.

Car has alfatune de-dpf, EGR delete etc
