That in itself isn't shocking. It's how frequent this happens that may be. There will always be a percentage of fault components. It's how high that percentage is that may be an issue. Have you seen many of these at 30k?

I was suprised how good of a condition mine was on the same car with 47000 on the clock. Had mine replaced last week along with the timing belt and it was in really good nick.

My waterpump was replaced for first time at 137,000 miles. Wasnt leaking and bearings were still quite good.

blimey not seen one corroded like that, i had one under 30k were the impeller had cracked up causing the engine to overheat.

That's coolant residue from where it's been leaking, the ally part of the pump hasn't really got any corrosion on it.

The local chain of dealers in East Anglia have had plenty of failures of this waterpump. It's the same unit as the 147/156/GT. When mine was replaced at 58,000 miles it was already starting to leak. Best to change at least every 48,000 miles imho.
