Steering fluid on top of reservoir.

Hi, I have a 2006 159 1.9 JTDm with 101k on the clock. I keep having to wipe the top of the power steering fluid reservoir as it keeps getting covered with the power steering fluid.

I don't get a whine while steering and the rack and pump were reconditioned at 60k by the previous owner.

The fluid in the reservoir is the red/brown variant.

I dont want to damage the steering pump/rack so was wondering if its worth changing the fluid and reservoir for the newer type.

Is it frothing, or bubbling after you drive it? If so, then yes. Other people have had this, and apparently the entrained air in the fluid is the cause of the issue.

Id also replace the reservoir to ensure you have the later return valve
