Bravo Yonash, kudos, chapeu bas, you're the man!

I've already 'enlisted' for the next round via the Polish forums, but I just want you to know I'm willing to take a few days of work and drive 1500km from Brussels to Warsaw just to get it done, that's how great I think it is But would I have to do it myself, or is there a chance I could enlist your help with it? (not for free of course)

More info in December.

So are the kits ready? How do I order them?

YonasH has kits available if you can contact him that require DIY installation into your existing lights. The main issue with this is that his approach requires the lights to be cut open (much debated in this thread).

I abandoned this project for some time purely for this reason despite being the OP!!

If people are interested though, I'll let you all into a little secret I have been working with another forum member on a none cut approach to the headlights, and we have it 99% done. What this would mean is the supply of a brand new headlight, sealed as per the original with working Halo's in that you can just swap with the existing headlight on your car.

Prices and details TBC but expect some pictures and video's coming in the next few weeks!

This will be a UK spec kit, meeting UK regs for DRL's but with an optional MOT function that switches the DRL functions off completely if needed.

Interested?

Still waiting patiently for some info. (And hoping the price isn't going to make us cry!)

Its been a long time coming but here is the first sneak preveiw of Project Halo "UK edition"

Here is the video of the effects / modes of operation:

Official Halo UK Demo - YouTube

You can see some of the early electronics & development here:

Project Halo UK - First fade test - YouTube
Project Halo UK Startup Sequence - YouTube
Project Halo UK - Primary state changes - YouTube

  • Mode 1 ) Start-up - 0% to 100% to 70% fade sequence from inside LED to outside LED
  • Mode 2) Daylight running - all LEDs at 70%
  • Mode 3) Night time running - all LEDs at 30%
  • Mode 4) Signal - outside LEDs to 30%, inside LED off
  • Mode 5) Main Beam - All LEDs at 100%

Design notes:
  1. Each headlight will have an independent controller installed into it (where the factory fit Xenon ballasts attach underneath the unit)
  2. The LED rings are very high quality / brightness straight from a factory in China, not available on ebay etc.
  3. The headlights are brand new, and split open at the glue seal NO CUTTING!
  4. The headlights will be supplied as replacement units
  5. We cannot accept your old headlights in exchange (sorry, its not viable for many reasons)
  6. This is a labour of love, not profit, but we need to cover costs

Price TBC, but it will include the cost of 2 new headlights, labour, electronics, parts etc.

I am working with "Coxy1" on the forum on this project. He is the man responsible for the fabrication and headlight split/assembly. I am on electronics as usual. Coxy may be unavailable for a little while due to personal circumstances, and I have a full time job running a consulting business so this is a slow burn project to get right. If you want a set, we can talk pre-orders once we have development sets installed on both Coxy's and my own car.

What do you think folks?

I'll do some better vid's when I have more time!

Very nice work Jaba & Coxy. Coxy gave me a little preview last weekend. I think my Brera would suit a set of those nicely...

They look great. Well done.

Love the startup. Pity we'll be inside the car!

My questions are...

How hard will they be to fit? Will a novice be able to do it, or is it a trip to my local indie.

I have a HID kit that I was planning on installing soon. Will these work in the new lights?

How to the modes change? Is it a manual thing or is there a sensor to switch between day and night?

A novice will be able to fit them, as long as said novice is happy removing the front bumper which is actually quite easy to do! If not your local indie will be able to oblige!

They will be compatible with after-market HID kits and LED bulbs but not Factory fit Xenons.

The mode changes are automatic. The units detect when the lights are switched on and automatically change. Same for indicators and main beam. This is what makes them legal in the UK as they meet regs for the use of DRL's.

Each headlight will also have a good old fashioned "MOT Bypass" switch on it that disables the rings completely just in case you get a particularly militant MOT tester

Jay, nice work! My one is more advanced, but some probably don't care.
Advice: check your halos on the sunny road! Best if you could compare them to some factory fitted DRLs (like Giulieta). I though the same, that I will have to decrease the brightness for DRL mode, but then it finds out that 100% is only enough.

Regarding my kit - hard to say how many peoples from here will still want those. If any, I need to let you know I will not produce those this year. It's too late to have them ready before end of summer. Besides I have to diagnose issue with HIDs (Jay, you may have the same!).

...V6 sound - pricelsess!
