Yep, I wouldn't do it if there wasn't a ready made kit for it.
Even then, I have no idea how the kit is fitted (there are instructions I'm told but I don't know what's involved until I get my hands on one).
As soon as I have something I'll post.

All has gone quiet on project Halo....

I have designed a SMT RGB led pcb for the idea - giving you a very versatile halo ring, but its still way too much hassle to be actually worth building I think

Quiet on my side due to Xmas family stuff. Also, I have given my dad, who is infinitely more handy at breaking stuff than me, the task of finding an easy, repeatable, way into the light.

This is what hinges the success or failure of the project as the rest, ie electronics etc is easy.

I still think the answer is a module that fits the outside of the light. Breaking into the light seems like it will only end in tears at some point.
Plus I am still sure that adding something around the outside of the light lens will affect the beam.

I know other car forums have indeed placed the halos outside the light and kept them in place using headlamp protectors....

I had the halos on my wife's BMW and also think they look good on bmws only if I were to add I'd go with the led strip that others have done but would prefer them to be longer but not sure whether they remove the sheer class from the gorgeous face of our brera

I'm waiting for Smarty156's mate to come back from the Ukraine after Christmas, hopefully with interesting news.

I am drawing together some conceptual thoughts around the fogs Steve, an easy to manufacture unit that replaces the fog light surround (the plastic bit that clips around the actual light and finishes the bumper).

....very early days though but this is what I am thinking:

As soon as I have any news I'll report back.
Not sure when she's due back in the office as their Christmas is in January. I'm back to work tomorrow so I'll find out then.

I am looking into a less intrusive/destructive option for DRLs at the minute as I partially melted my junk headlight in the oven trying to take it apart not sure if smarty's mate has scoped out the euro option or not yet....,

I'm back with some news
After pretty long Christmas break I finally went to fit rings inside the headlight. Result:

I compared SMD rings (which I want to use) with CCFL one:

More info soon.

Looking good YonasH!

Think you may want some electronics behind those to manage the brightness, especially with the indicators.

Yes - electronic is some next step. But first I need to test my new way to open the unit, and install rings inside it.
Few minutes ago I connected all three and that how it looks:

Will be getting a kit but she didn't bring one back with her for various reasons.
She's getting her brother to get one and "arrange" getting it back to the UK (it's the Ukraine, don't ask - nothing's simple!). Only trouble at the moment is the weather as there's a lot of snow there at the moment.
Stick with me. As soon as I have the kit, I'll take pictures and attempt to fit them (if it's fairly simple- if not I'll sell on to someone more technically minded!).

How do they affect the beam of the light?
It looked to me like the entire lens of the headlight was used, and therefore I wondered if fitting them inside narrowed the headlight beam

I'm very interested in this...

I'm really interested in this thread, as I'm assuming the headlight unit in the Brera is essentially the same, and hence any DIY jobs would work on the Brera too.

Earlier someone mentioned the idea of DRLs on fogs. It looks like someone on ebay is already selling these (and for 30 I'm tempted, as one of mine is cracked)

I'm assuming that these would also fit the Brera, so I just wanted to make people aware that they're out there...

They look great.

Although I would question the "Universal" fitting bit, especially as the GT fog light is built into the headlight!
Would love someone to guinea pig these, would be tempted if they work.

These were the ones mentioned in the previous thread. They look an easier alternative!

Let us know if you go for it...

159 Brera Fog Angel Eye

Hi MarcG

Ahh, sorry - I must have missed that post earlier.

I've emailed the seller to see if they sell a non 'blue' version, as I'd much rather have a standard colour from the fog. So we'll see what he says. Also, I've realised he's selling the same item for multiple different cars/models so fitment might be very interesting. Does anyone have a guide/description of how to replace the front fogs?

I'm guessing it's going to be either really simple, or a full bumper removal?

I start looking into this and I need some help. I didn't found anyone yet, who would do it in acceptable price. One guy asked GBP200 for a prototype...

The fogs look like a decent idea and may save a lot of hassle / risk with butchering the headlamps. Not suee about the fitment / mounting bracket though. Would it be any easier to crack open a fog lamp?
