I took the plunge, and my brother in-law and I fitted the paddle kit to my 57 plate (original limited edition Ti) today.
Despite the naysayers at my local AR service centre, I'm delighted to report all works perfectly. No compatibility problems with my car's wiring nor any electrical meltdown. It really is plug and play.
I ended up going Alfa.Romeo's route of buying a new Ti steering wheel with the paddles already fitted (sourced from Germany on e-bay, although came from Poland), fitting it with the required shift gate (Part Nr 55344202). (I'll be putting my original Ti steering wheel on e-bay at some point - excuse the plug).
With sincere thanks to Alfa.Romeo for his excellent step-by-step guide, we did the whole thing (shift gate and steering wheel) in under an hour (my brother in-law is an ex VAG mechanic, which helped - he put aside his AR prejudices to assist). We didn't have a 24mm socket to remove the steering wheel nut, but used a 15/16" one which did the trick.
The experience of driving today with the paddle shifts takes me back a good few years to the fun of using the steering wheel mounted button controls on my old 156 Selespeed. I'm still smiling.
Looking forward to hearing how JabawokJayUK gets on with adding paddles to his existing Ti wheel.
