159 replacement key

Hello,
I am in need of a replacement key for a 159 and would like to know what options I have.
Can a used key be reprogrammed?
If not where can I buy a new one online for a reasonable price?
Any other options?
Thank you in advance.

I bought a key and followed the instructions in the thread linked below, now the very happy owner of a mint condition key!

(or the equivalent in Israel) from a main dealer.

I've been meaning to ask the same question. Is a re-programme possible?

I was quoted something like 260 for a new one from a main dealer.

Dandy, I dont believe they are. A blank key is paired to the car and once done the key is fixed. Bit like the mercedes ones and similar price too. The ones you see on ebay are only good for the case, thats why the seller claims no responsibility or denies any knowledge.

Ah, thanks. That's going to be an annoying bill I'd better cough up at some point.

Just to add a note to this, wish I'd searched here first.

I need a spare key, but after buying a key on ebay listed as 'just needs to be programmed to the car and the blank cut', I found they are indeed a one shot deal - once programmed to a car, you can't just take them and program them to a different one. It needs to be a new, virgin key to be added.

On top of this, the ebay seller (in Singapore) was a real arse about it and wouldn't even answer communications (polite ones, by the way). I only finally got my cash back after Ebay judged the dispute in my favour. He complained about having to refund and went as far as saying things bought from Ebay were 'sold as seen', effectively saying he believed he had no responsibility for the items he sells.

So I am 52 out of pocket after paying the Alfa dealer to try and code it in.

Moral? Be careful where you buy the keys from.

Pete.

Alfa Romeo. No, you need them to program it.

Is there anyone who copied alfa romeo 159 key? I do not have the slave key. I have only the orijinal one. dealer's price for the replacement key is about 300$...it is really too much...

It will be worse (and more expensive) if you lost your only key. Main dealer here, in Gran Canaria, tried to code a replacement key from another 159 (owner sold his car before the key got here, and never went for it) to my car.

It was impossible. The replacement key is ordered with you VIN number, and it's dispatched from factory with the "internals" coded and key blade cut.

And then, dealer has to match everything in your car.
