been here before a while back when I had a nice 156 2.0 TS in 2006 for a few months, but not been on here for a few years having had mostly japstuff since, and a merc most recently... anyway to the point, I'm considering a 159 now for various reasons;
* bored with bland motors
* german prestige - more myth than fact
* want that "special" feeling back!
* cant really find anything newer than 2003 that interests me - other modern cars are boring / bland
I've spent some time on here researching what to look for and issues etc, having being stung for a new turbo and injectors on a prestige german brand, I cant find much to look out for on a 159 other than steering racks and common diesel issues (dpf, swirl flaps, injectors etc?) is there anything else?
cars i'm considering are;
159 2.2 petrol
159 1.9 jtm
preferably Lusso spec or higher
GT coupe 1.9 diesel or 2.0 petrol
would even consider a late model 156 petrol or diesel.
not ruled out, but the 2.4 sounds a bit thirsty for a diesel, my current dissapointment, sorry merc, struggles to get 40mpg on a run
the 159 is winning for me as the estate would be the most practical and still looks drop dead gorgeous!
I'm doing around 10k a year so could live with a petrol doing 30mpg if its a nice drive and reliable, likewise I could live with a 40mpg diesel, the only thing that puts me off diesel (generally) is any savings in mpg will be blown out the water with 1 big issue involving any combination of turbos, injectors, swirl flap, fuel pumps, dpf etc etc having been stung on this before.
DPF removal & remap looks to redress some of this but needs to be factored into the budget - How does this affect insurance etc?
any other advice would be welcomed!
