Alfa 159 ticking clicking clutch click tick
I am not a 159 owner but I thought I would post this for you all seeing as there are many threads on this issue. Hopefully the title makes it easily searchable.
For the past few months I have heard a clicking/ticking sound on my GT JTDm. It is present at idling and disappears once gears are engaged. The clicking remains at low revs when moving through the gears but will disappear when at higher revs.
I have been told that the 159 manifests a similar issue. The sound will emanate from the driver's side wheel area. There is an/the (?) air box on that side. The vibration is down to breather nipples vibrating. Apparently this is nothing to worry about - it is just a natural phenom. Apparently, people have stuck sealant on the nipples to eliminate vibrations but this is a big no no. The reason for their existence is to allow moisture to escape.
On the GT, the sound comes from the battery area/gearbox side - which is why it sounds worrying!
Hope that helps - all information garnered from a reputable specialist.
