need some advice from any veteran alfa owners/diesel connoisseurs/anybody!
I recently upgraded the trusty old Mito for a Brera Spider JTDm
. 1 month of top down fun later it started running rough while sitting idle in traffic. This only happens after driving for a couple of miles. - can see the rev counter ticking up momentarily every couple of seconds while idle. if I keep the revs above 900 it goes away.
This never happened while starting engine from cold. Also sometimes on motorway a few times the power would go for 3-5 mins before fixing itself. Then the engine started cutting out but only at low speeds.
I tried the REDEX and used only the best diesel (BP Ultimate) and gave it the beans but that diddnt work for very long.
Bought car from a peugeot garage with warranty. They changed the EGR valve which solved nothing, so they sent it to an Alfa Dealer who tell me peugeot fitted a faulty valve!
Since then they have changed the EGR valve twice, changed the glowplugs, software upgrade, hose clip on intake pipe, however the car has been with them for 5 weeks and they still have not solved the problem.
I appreciate they are not giving it back until its properly fixed and so far everything has been done under peugeot's warranty but the car has been in the garage longer than on my drive. Its taken 5 weeks to change 3 things and it sounds like they are just replacing the whole engine bit by bit. I could be waiting forever! The novelty of driving around in a courtesy 107 that smells like pickles and intercourse (likely from previous owner) is wearing thin.
I have looked on numerous forums but I'm not sure if its the same thing, as the rough idle in mine only happens with a warm engine. Does it sound like an injector problem? Does anybody know if this rough idle gets cured on the JTDs and if not is it a better idea to jump ship/get one's monies back?
