I guess this question or something similar may have been asked before, but I couldn't find anything answering my specific query, so hoping that someone can help.
I have a Brera 2.2 and I'm looking to get winter tyres fitted this cold season for the first time.
I currently have 17" alloys, but they are the anthricate ones and I don't want them to get chipped fitting/changing tyres more than I have to and I also don't really want to have to pay each time I want to put on or take off my winter tyres. So what I'm after I guess is some new rims as well for the winter tyres to go on.
I was thinking about steel rims so that I could get cheaper (smaller) tyres which might also be better for the snow, but apart form the fact that they would look really crap, I don't seem to be able to find any that would suit particularly easily. I don't really fancy shelling out £100 per wheel, plus £100-150 per tyre, but I guess I might have to if I get 2nd hand brera wheels.
Can anyone tell me if I could fit smaller wheels than the 17" ones I currently have and if so, what do I have to look out for to make sure that they will fit? They have to be 5x100 PCD stud pattern, right? Anything else that I need to look out for?
Are any of the ones in the classified section suitable?
If my current wheels take 225x50 R17, is there a cheaper (perhaps more common?) size that I could fit to the brera 17" wheels?
thanks very much for any thoughts, I am a bit of a noob when it comes to wheel tyre sizes - I have always just replaced with the same size previously!
