The biggest annoyance I think with it, is that for an engine that size, it drinks way too much fuel, and I dont know where Parkers got their combined cycle of 24mpg and the 31mpg extra urban figure from, because to achieve that I have to drive so pedestrian I often wonder why I didnt go for the 2.2.
I never understand folks who buy a) a 3.2v6 and b) an Alfa and then complain about mpg - what were you expecting??
I know alot of people complain that it isnt a true alfa engine because it was made by GM, but I think that is the route cause of the fuel consumption problem, its american. Jaguar manage to achieve better fuel economy with a 5 litre supercharged V8!! For an engine of that size, it never really gets going, I think the gears are too long and its too lazy low down, for the amount of petrol it drinks you would have thought it would pack a tastier punch! The number of times I have welded my foot and thought to myself its broken!
I think it's more to do with inefficient ECU and a heavy car.. Show me which V8 got better mpg.. I know someone with 4.2lV8 and it's quite a bit less than 24mpg.
I think the interior is gorgeous, but when you look closely its not as comfortable a car as the GT, and some areas, the plastics are really quite poor, especially the imitation leather on the door cards.
Horses for courses. TBH, mine is earlier SV, and I don't have that imitation leather, and I adore my interior - much better than any GT I sat in.
It doesnt drive as well as it looks really, it is a triumph of style, but unfortunately it doesnt have the substance.
I think the GT was less flawed and suceptible to problems. The Brera chews through CV joints, it has an annoying rocking on the seats which is fixed by either buying a new seat £700, or purchasing a kit costing £100 and then £500 labour as it takes half a day to fit it. The fuel tanks have an issue where they only fill to 3/4 full. They also eat tyres. God only knows what it would have been like if it was FWD.
rocking seat is a well known issue - and should be fixed under warranty.. Mine is an 07 and has not sufferred from it (runs to kiss car and tell it I believe in it
). I've not experienced any more wear on tyres than on my old pug 307. Am putting on summer shoes and they get about 16-18k which is what I would expect (and mine is the 2.4).. The pug did 20k on all weathers.
The GT had a much better sound system, it had many more options and more luxuries, heated seats were lovely and dearly missed.
All options - you didn't pay enough
I am now thinking about changing it again for a GT blackline, I wondered if any Brera owners out there agree, or disagree even?
