159 TBi bye bye
That's my 159 TBi Elegante returned to the lease company this morning. 24 months into a 36 month lease. Had to go in the end, despite having to pay 40% of remaining rentals.
Felt a slight pang of sadness as it was driven away, but not a lot.
It's been a really mixed experience for a die hard Alfa fan of 20 years. Really wanted to like it but we never really gelled.
Here's my thoughts.
Likes:- Cruising ability; engine flexibility; plenty space; paint finish much better than previous Alfas; looks.
Dislikes:- The most uncomfortable drivers seat ever, which caused numb feet and pins and needles after 20 minutes no matter how I adjusted it; appalling economy; rattly interior; no storage space inside; fixed arm rest making it difficult to engage seat belts; dreadful ground clearance (hate to think what a Ti TBi is like); not as fast as a 200 BHP car should be.
Was after a fast, comfortable grand tourer, capable of mid 30's economy. What I got was an uncomfotable car that didn't feel as fast as the figures suggested and average 27 MPG.
I'm picking up a Giulietta Veloce on saturday. It's the 140 diesel! Said I'd never have a diesel again after the last hateful experience (new 156 JTDm in 2004 lasted 8 months before going back) but economy and cheap tax band too hard to ignore. At least I've still got the old car to enjoy.
