2007 Spider loss of drive/sloppy gear lever
At the end of June I had just left home in the car when suddenly after half a mile, I lost all drive, and the gear lever seemed to be unconnected to anything very much. I could stir it in a wide circle with the engine running! I thought I had a major problem. I switched the engine off, but after a couple of minutes wondering what to do next, just as suddenly some resistance returned to the gear lever, and I was able to restart and drive off normally.
Since then Iíve driven about 500 miles without problem, Iíve had the car checked out by Bishopís Guildford, who could find no problem, and all was fine untilÖ..
On Saturday 20th August the same thing happened, but even closer to home Ė about 400 yards. This time it took a good 10 minutes to suddenly, and for no discernible reason, get back to normal.
I've been in contact with Alfa UK, and they are mystified - the cables holding the gear lever to the gearbox can't just detach and reattach!
If this happens when I'm driving on a busy road it could be really dangerous, so I have to do something about it. Anyone got any ideas?
