I think I'd rewrite the instructions as follows.
1. Lower the silver coloured ring at the base of the leather gear knob.
2. At the base of the gear knob, insert a knife or flathead screwdriver and via a lifting motion, separate the black ring from the leather knob area - it will simply fall down.
3. Pull the leather gear knob off
£80-90 for a replacement leather gear knob, depending on whether Ti or normal. Note, main dealer said I had to go to them physically to order it and pay for it before they'd order it and then it would be delivered to them for me to pick up. Veloces "yeah, Ben, we've got that in stock, pass by and we'll put it on for you" - note the difference.
Once taking the gear leather knob off, had the gear rod and a bit to depress to get it to move, then drove as usual. The knob is purely cosmetic.
