A different LED style (CREE, COB, etc etc) can produce more or less light with more or less power, so the "wattage" measure is not relevant.

Ask the seller to measure the light output in lumen. You can get an iphone app for it, its that easy
I totally agree lumens are the only way to measure the light output.

With regards to power use, my concern was that installing lights that have a higher power can lead to problems, as the car is not designed for that (I.e. using a 50W bulb instead of 5W may overcharge the cables, alternator, etc, even leading to fire).

Its amps that kill not watts and the amps this unit uses vs a stock one would also need to be measured. a normal bulb draws around 1.5amps whereas a 15w LED draws around 0.5amps.

Again, its like comparing apples n pairs and saying, well they are both green. These ebay sellers use peoples lack of electrical understanding to sell. 50w > than 20w so must be better...... vs x lumens or y amps.

btw, stock wiring is usually at least double the power spec it needs to be for safety and a fuse would blow before the wires burned out.

I'm considering to put one of these resistor for sidelights, but without actual led bulb at the other end. The goal is to make the car think there is a bulb, but not to have any. Do you think this is possible or I actually need a bulb?

Hi All,

Just go the below Festoon LED's delivered today for the interior, however they stay on permanently.

Extra resistors required maybe?

Yeah I've got some of these in mine as well and they have been doing well for the past couple of weeks. Even when one was faulty they sent a replacement straight away

Bought a couple of these to replace the number plate lights as last week I had a couple of warning messages from the original LE|D set when it was raining. They have been in and fine for 2 years+ mind!

Now I notice that they come on full power as the boot is popped, then within a few seconds drop down to an unusable low glow...weird.

My car keeps killing LEDs in the front left sidelights!!!
Stalled the car yesterday and got the sidelight warning come up after restart. One side of the cob was dead (has happened on several previous LEDs too), am I the only one?

Well unfurtunatley these are not propper CANBUS Leds so they are no use. Managed to throw one of the many sets of T10's I had knocking about into the number plate lights to shut up the errors. They may be a tad brighter than needed now mind!

So after a couple of years a few of my LEDs were looking a bit worse for wear!!

Specifcally the indicators. My setup is with load resistors so these bulbs are only any good if you follow my conversion guide: Alfa 159 TI Full LED Conversion ? Exterior Guide | Jabablog

So the existing bulbs I was using had started to suffer faiulures of some of the LED's on the units.
483652432_o.jpg
In the above picture you can see the LEDs around the side and a lens with a number of LEDs in, projecting light forward. It was these LEDs that had failed so the amount of light out of the bulb, especially in the daytime, was minimal.

I looked around for a decent replacement which is harder than you think as the Alfa uses BAU15s bulbs which have the 150 degree pin stagger making them not that common!! all the can-bus ones were BAU15 with pins at 180 degrees so they are no use

Eventually I found these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3713738521...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
11.JPG
They make use of an interesting reflector design that gives the 360 degree light you need in this location so I a bought 4 and installed them. The result is epic. They are really good. Bright but not blinding and produce a nice circle of light spots in the reflector that makes it look a little different

I do recommend these units for anyone with load resistors in place on their indicator circuit.

Do these still need resistors? I received them couple days ago but didn't have the time to install them yet...

edit: nevermind, read the post again, I somehow missedthe info first time

Question Sidelight pain

Morning,

So, I've decided to try and sort the LED sidelights again after trying all of them:

These just popped and died one day:
http://r.ebay.com/yV1X2Z

And these finally arrived last week, but guess what - they don't seem to seat properly in the clip (and I lost one in the damn housing trying to remove it grrr....):
http://r.ebay.com/K7ECoY

So - any others I should try, as I slowly buy China, 5 by 5?......

Had a play with my 'broken' cob sidelight, bit of a bizarre one, but when I held it, to reseat it, it came alive again, just pushing one of the sides seems to get it going again. So may just be the solder dying. Got a new one coming so will have a play then

Found these work fine, maybe a little bright but not errors.

Hi All,

Heres my findings for better side lights.

Had some Philips Blue Vision Ultra fitted in my Fabia which did give a close to white light. So I bought another set for the 159 but ended up looking yellow due to the indicator bulbs being in the same housing.

So I came across these ' T10 - 501/W5W : 14K GOLD SUPER CANBUS T10/501/W5W 9 LED BULBS - PAIR ' which are a little pricey but took the plunge. See the results below, I think they don't look to shabby.

I'm guessing the blue vision ultras on on the passenger side in the pic and the LEDs are on the drivers side?

I have cheap eBay specials in mine and they just don't do it for me in daylight, need something with a more uniform light distribution (and better daylight illumination, when I pull up behind a car in daylight I can barely make out my sidelights in the reflection)

Yours look like they might be worth the money?

Axe.

LEDs Advice for the 159

From the looks of the images on their site they seem to have led driver circuitry in them rather than just a basic set of resistors. If this is the case then that will provide some protection for the LEDs and will help with the brightness.

The gold is a bit pointless anywhere except the electrical path though

Look like they might be decent but only time will tell.

Are these still the best for stop/tail: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Red-Ear...QAAOSwD0lUfe5w or thereis some new alternative.

I need to switch to led because old bulbs basicly started to melt tail/brake housing.

These have been great in my car for the last 3 years. You will need load resistors though.

Yes, LED is on the drivers side.

So far they seem to be okay, still early days yet.

Just fitted these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301255531477
Bright and nice color, but I get an intermittent warning message that says the left side light is not working, even though it actually works just fine. I got the same message for the right side light as well, but only once. The message clears itself after a minute or so. This seems to happen at the beginning of the ride when the engine is cold. Don't know if that is related to the problem, though.

I thought these bulbs would work without any problems, but do I need a resistor to clear the error?
