The seats in the ti are the most comfortable i've been in inside a car, and look smart as owt.
Agreed. Mine in the Ti...including the leather....are excellent. I had a new A4 whose seats gave me pins and needles after less than an hour at the wheel and that was so well built that the suspension was creaking after 2000 miles and it took them nearly two years to admit the old squeaking bedstead sounds might not be right! It later became an acknowledged fault that the design of the front lower drop links was poor.
I have to say that the interior of my Ti always feels like an "event" and welcoming to come back to especially after being in another more mundane car, and I get to sample quite a lot of BMW, Mercs etc (but not Audis- there's no point because I know they are still over-hyped, unreliable crap).
BMW are fine, if common fleet fodder, cars. They aren't really bullet proof as I know enough colleagues who have had repeated small and major problems to know the truth of that. But they are not bad. The interiors are bland, basic and if you can put up with the oddly high floor-straight legged seating of a 320 which I personally find uncomfortable, then you'll probably be chuffed with it and good luck to you.
If you buy a 5 series be ready for shocking ride quality on run flats. It isn't bad, it's terrible; but you will get great economy from their diesels. Just don't infer that they are automotive deity and Alfa is demonically poor, please.
Just to clarify, this wasn't meant as a alfa vs bmw thread, or a my car is an xyz thread.
I'm just telling you how I feel, and expressing my own opinions.
Each to their own and all that.
My experience of alfa was poor. Everyone will have their own moments and memories with their cars.
Sadly, I had very very few good ones.
I didn't even start out saying that all alfa's are unreliable. Just that mine wasn't very good.
I got off light I think. I've got a feeling that there's a lot more to come on that particular vehicle. I'm sure I was heading for some of the horror stories that other people reported on here. I seemed to be picking off the various faults from the regular ones that keep getting posted up on here.
The seats are rubbish though. Maybe the TI ones are better. But the Lusso were crap.
You were unhappy with your Alfa and we all have to respect that and your opinion. Maybe you are an unusually cautious or nervous person as much of your problem seems to be a worry about what might
happen rather than what did. Nobody can change that perception and it isn't my place to question the rationality of it, even if the handbrake issue sounds more like a user failure at SR suggested and you experienced a common diesel failure - a lot of marques have EGR failure and DPF clogging in their diesels.
