Mines just arrived off ebay and its version number V1.5a, will that need the modification also?
I hesitate to answer your question because the answer to your question is so obvious and my reply is bound to come across as harsh. But, this IS the Internet, so here goes nothin'.
It may be true that somebody on this forum keeps up with each and every version of the cheap EBay ELM devices coming from China, but I seriously doubt it. We're mostly car guys and most of us buy these things to learn more about our cars. I happen to own one which works (after modification) and, as far as I can tell, it doesn't have a version number printed on the circuit board. Others report that they have chips mounted to a board which are of a different version from what is printed on the board; sometimes newer, sometimes older. It just depends on which board and which chip the little Chinese child grabs as he is assembling the device. Apparently a few suppliers have taken to modifying the devices after they get them from China, but most don't.
In any case, it strikes me as silly to tear resistors off of a board if the device works. And, it is even more silly to continue to use a device which doesn't work if, by modifying it, it will work at zero additional cost and the investment of five minutes time.
If I were you, I would try the device. If it works, relax. If it doesn't, then read the sticky thread at the top of the Fiatecuscan users forum and follow the advice there.
