"normal" regen Vs "Forced" regen

Hello all , I noticed my 159 1.9 JTDm did a regen today on way home from work( MPG dropped ) so I continued trip home ( long route ). When home noticed exhaust tip VERY hot ( plus new black soot on surface ) plus smell of heat and tinkling metal sound !! ..
Just wondering does the forced regen via the ECU software do same or different (bigger dpf clean ) does anyone know ?
BTW regen took about 10mins if even less !

I think the driving one is better, the forced one is really just where its too choked to do it automatically and the technician is meant to check everything is OK before forcing it.

Above 2100 rpm or so 60 mph or higher, takes about 10 minutes, yes.

Try and get a lot of revs/ load on it to get it even hotter if you notice a regen
