Weeping power steering resevoir

Evening all,

I've noticed that the top of my power steering fluid resevoir and the cap are covered in a thin film of gunk. My GTV used to do this too. Is this common or do I need a new cap?

You may need a new reservoir or pipes. The pipes can collapse inside causing excess pressure, which will then push the fluid out the cap. There was also a fault with some reservoirs.

Or it could be the pump, but you probably would have noticed any fault with this.

yes it's a common problem, especially if you've been spanking your car a bit. there is a fix from alfa dealers which improves it, but doesn't completely cure it
