High Power HID Kits

I've got a 55w kit fitted to mine at present which works perfectly and I'm very happy about.

However I note now there are 75w and 100w versions also available. I was looking at these for the main beam. Has anyone else used these? Slightly concerned the extra heat may damage light fitting.

We've discussed to death on here the legalities and morals of HID kits so let's not cover old ground again on this in case anyone feels obliged to post about the need for headlight washers etc

If you insist upon discussing illegal modifications I'm afraid you will have to put up with the people who get very p***ed off about it.

chris, I wouldnt bother putting HIDs in as main beams; they take too long to warm up to provide decent instant light IMO. I believe most dealer fit main beams are actually a lens which flips the dipped beam up into main beam, I may be wrong but at least thats how my friends Aston Vantage did it?

I would just go for a set of the Phillips Extreme bulbs instead.

Personally I really don't like get blinded by bright halogen lights, but if you can do it so it doesn't blind people...

As for the technical aspects of the question, I think you are right to worry about the headlight fitting. The black plastic mount that holds the right headlight (dipped) beam melted a bit on my Brera with the standard blub on - because some plum had pushed the connector pins into the sides of the socket (i.e. between the metal and the plastic) instead of the middle of the connector (i.e. into metal on each side). As a result the plastic heated up and melted slightly to the point that one pin lost contact with the socket. I went to replace the bulb, saw the problem and placed the connector in properly - problem solved.

But point being, those plastic connector blocks can melt so I really don't know if it would take a higher power kit.
