I've had my 159 for over a week now and would like to ask a few questions about the experience and gain a little insight into it's inner workings. Please bear with me;
The biggest 'annoyance' is a rattily flappy sound coming from the A pillars right at the base, sort of where the bonnet meets the A pillar. It happens between 70-80 mph (indicated). Now, I know that there have been threads on here regarding wind noise on the 159 in these very areas, but's not a whining sound or a whistle, just a rattle, as if some cover or trim is flapping about due to wind/pressure at those speeds. It is definitely caused by wind though. When stationary and I examine the area behind the bonnet and the A pillars it all appears to be reasonably solid.
Is this another known issue ? Before I start attacking that area with various bits of baffle to stop it, is there a tried and tested method to fix ?
Media Player. I have a USB key plugged in as a temporary measure (as I can't get the 5.5 update to apply for Blue&Me so I can use my iPhone, but that's another issue...) and it's working fine. But how in God’s name to you stop the car from automatically turning the radio on and playing the media from where it left off ? I'm not bothered about the media being played from where it left off, but don't want it to play at all - I like to turn the key (well, push the button in the 159's case...) and hear the engine, not be greeted with music every time. If I want music, I turn it on when I want it.
I note that when turning off the radio by holding down the volume knob for a second or so that in the dash it says 'paused'. But I want 'stop'. Even turning off the radio before stopping the engine results in it coming back on again when starting the car (but only when there is a USB key plugged in...). Help.
Another rattle. This time much less annoying but annoying nonetheless, coming from what appears to be the top dash vent area at 50-60 mph (indicated). Can't quite put my finger on it (literally!). Known issue in this area ? Fixes ?
Economy. Mine is the 2.0 JTDm 170 TI. Not that it bothers me as I'm not paying for the fuel (company car) but it's struggling to achieve 40 mpg at the moment. High 30's is the norm. I've done about 1500 miles in the last week, the vast majority is cruising at motorway speeds (70-80 mph (indicated)). I expected better I suppose. I read that with the TI having 19" wheels this may be a factor. Is it ? What's everyone else getting ? I read the 2.0 JTDm was supposed to be more economical and yet still more powerful than the 1.9. Not so ?
Are these just all part of the joy of Alfa ownership ?
Thank you please!
