I have absolutely no connection with any car dealers, garages or tuning specialists.
After years of German mid range exec types (320d A4 TDI's), decided to go for a bit of flair and better value for money.
Sourced a 2008 159 SW from an independent specialist Alfa dealer in North London. Travelled down from the North to purchase. Despite a poorly prepared vehicle (overfilled sump etc), I have been generally impressed with ownership so far. Got all the issues sorted out with oil change, general tiding up and new tyres.
Car impressed me with its performance especially at the top end of the rev range. Did somehow seem to lack a little grunt at the bottom end occasionally needing to change down to stop juddering. Strange, bearing in mind the engine's reputation.
Enjoying the car from a performance and practicality point of view and was quietly impressed with the build quality and finish. May not be in Audi's league but nearly on a par with BMW!
Started looking around at remapping experts. Wildly differing prices and all sorts of claims made. Not a lot of specialists were recommended in the NW and I remembered that I had been a member of the Audi/VW forum and checked details of re-mapping specialists there. My mate with an Audi A3 wanted his re-mapping at the same time. The company FR&R Tuning came highly recommended on the German car forums and I gave them a call about Alfa's and the A3. They said that although Audi/VW and BMW's were their main trade they had experience of AR and were familiar with the 2.4 JTDm engine. A deal of £190 for each car was sorted out for the re-mapping.
Anyway just had it done. Well worth the effort and absolutely brilliant service. Unfortunately the other issue with the car dealer, unknown to me, was that a cheap 99p Ebay map had been installed prior to my purchase. This was the likely reason for the unbalanced performance. I understand that it took some time and effort to get the adjusted map right (thank you to Nav the reprogrammer/tuner at the Bradford head office) I can certainly tell the difference. Smoother all round and a more linear range of power and torque.
Great value in my book and the Manchester fitters (Imran and Ali) are a credit to the organisation and should be praised for their patience and customer service. They made what was obviously a real !?**X$** of a job reasonably pain free. Bearing in mind the amount of time spent on getting it right and the end result, I can fault the value.

Perhaps better if I don't highlight details of the so called independent 'specialist'!
