Well today I set off on a 180 mile trip around the peak district with great hopes of a decent blast in the 159, sadly a lot of my driving is local so this wasva real treat.
After a fairly subdued 10miles to Wetherby I finally hit the A1 only to notice the gearbox had developed an annoying squeak on changing, next when I tried to overtake a lorry the car was dead, I switched to instant economy on the trip computer to see 21mpg current consumption, the fekkin dpf had kicked in and was running like a dog with dt's....for the next 15mins I was all for selling the car while the loony dpf emptied my tank. Thankfully it eventually stopped and the car started to perform again.
From then on bar the whistling mirrors the car was marvellous, it glided around the peak district with superb poise and power, the gearbox noise dissapeared and all was well in the world
The thing that really impressed me was even with several stops and 30mins stuck in ****ty Sheffield rush hour traffic it returned an amazing 48.6 average mpg for the 180 miles...my normal berate is 31-32....ok I did freewheel from to top of snake pass into Sheffield almost but this is still very good for some spirited a road & meat driving.
After 2 years this car still has the ability to frustrate but I still love it despite it's dpf nonsense...if I did the mileage I'd have had it forcibly removed long since...it stops a great car been a brilliant car....
