Hello all my first post.
This is concerning my 57 plate 159 2.4 JTDM Lusso 210bhp version which i bought in August last year with only 13,780 miles in the clock.
We both love this car but the clutch started slipping at around the 20,000 miles which I had replaced with a nice new one.
The symptons were a burning smell on occasions, the clutch pedal did not return to the very top at times, it was about 30mm short of being fully extended, i used to hook my shoe underneath the pedal to pull it back up.
Before I had the new cluch fitted the slipping was hardly noticeable until you floored it going up a hill. As my wife drives this car all of the time it is driven in a very moderate manner.
We both have access to our other car which is a 51 plate 156 2.4 JTD with 173,000 miles on the clock and still going strong, I have had this since 80,000 miles and still the same clutch.
We both do not rest our foot on the clutch when we drive and this subject caused a lot of grief as my wife was starting to feel all of the blame was resting on her and her driving skills as she is the main driver by far. I must admit that her driving is better than mine and know the clutch wear is not down to her.
The car has now done 26,000 miles and we have the same burning smell and the pedal is not returning to the top again, however the clutch does not seem to be slipping at the moment although I am getting very scared in case it does.
Has anybody else had this experience? and any thoughts to what the problem could be, I really cannot afford a new clutch every 6-7000 miles so somthing must be going on.
