159 1.9JTD Buyers Info

Hi all

Were going to look at a 159 1.9 JTD tomorrow and although i'm no mechanic, wondered if you could give me some main headline things that it's worth checking out that are classic faults on these cars before I decide on making a purchase? Any tell tale signs on whether it will have been looked after or not?

Also what are peoples opinions on age and mileage? For example if you were parting with your hard earned on a 159 now, would you rather a newer, higher milage car (perhaps ex fleet) or would you rather an older, lower milage car as the ones i've seen seem to fall into either category?

Thanks in advance for any tips

Suggest you do a search on the black toolbar above: loads of info therein! Service history is key when buying any car...

Clutch clunk (1st, 2nd, 3rd). It worried me so much I got rid of mine. Not all do it (most don't) so if I was to buy again I would make sure it does not do it.
(when changing up or down you would have a thud a few 100's of a second later)

windscreen rattle and creaky clutch are 'features' of the car. Mine have all had the creaky clutch - no mechanical problems but slightly annoying. Windscreen rattle can be solved yourself with silicone spray or ultimately by the dealer taking the 'screen out and remounting.

Alfa Red cars from 2008 - 2009 had paint chipping issues - huge thread on this. Also make sure you get the car tracked properly so tyre wear doesn't become an issue. This was mainly on 19'' Ti rims/tyres however.

Good luck with your search and potential purchase
