Accelerator (Throttle) Failing Back to Idle
I have an odd problem with the Accelerator which first appeared 6 weeks ago and then nothing until this morning.
The characteristic of the problem is that on a light throttle the engine will fall back to idle and no amount of pressure will make the engine accelerate. I can apply full pedal travel and the engine will still idle. But if I release the pedal and reapply this 'cures' the problem.
This happened multiple times in this mornings journey. Although it sounds horrific, in practice, when I feel no response the natural action is to release it and try again. So the failure is only for a split second as I lift and reapply.
Six weeks ago it went to the dealer and they found no fault codes stored. So it seemed likely that the ECU was just seeing a released throttle. On this basis they changed the throttle assembly and it has not returned until this morning.
During today's fault period, stopping and restarting the engine did not cure it (although we thought this was the way around it in the first repair).
This morning the problem started about 5 miles into the journey down a 50MPH dual carriageway (about when it was fully warm). It continued during the rest of a 60 minute commute but was worse around the 15 minute mark and getting less frequent towards the end. This evening (from a start in an underground garage) it failed twice within 100 metres and then disappeared. Although I did feel that the throttle was not always giving the same response but this may just be my acute watching.
Anybody got a view?
I should add it's a 1750Tbi and 18 months old
