Mito (or potentially other Alfa models) squeaky noise from dashboard
Have just joined the world of Alfa with an 09 MiTo and I am generally pleased with it.
This was a replacement to my old trusty Leon Cupra ......
However, I soon discovered that a squeaky / chirping noise could be heard from
behind the dashboard area. This became unbearable as it came on whenever it
travelled over a bumpy surface. Initially, I thought it was the latch / lock mechanism in the
glove compartment. Having unsuccessfully adjusted the metal hook that receives the latch of the glove compartment at various positions, it finally proved that it was not that. (If you have the mechanism removed from the door you will notice that the plastic hinge makes a noise as you activate and unlock the latch mechanism).
I think that I have finally discovered the cause after some further investigation. By having the glove compartment in the open position, I inserted hand towards the right hand side of the dashboard panel and began to rock the dashboard assembly. This emulated the sound and therefore was able to establish that the noise was somewhere there. On closer inspection, there is a bolt at the back of the glove compartment that was making contact with the metal fuse box assembly (see images) As the vehicle moved it rubbed against the casing generating the noise. I have bent the flange away from the bolt and the noise is gone!! No more squeaks / chirping noises.
