I've had both Spider and Brera, both as 2.2s. Engines aside, I would offer this:
- Both cars are stunning and turn heads. When the roof is down, you get more attention in the Spider and it does look better than the Brera (but you can feel self conscious, particularly in traffic).
- There is a MASSIVE difference in the ride quality. The Brera is far better. The Brera is very rigid with a very good ride (if a little soft). The Spider has significant scuttle shake. Cruising over the M42 actually makes me feel quite sick as a passenger in the Spider.
- Due to the increased body roll and even softer suspension, the Spider is not nearly as chuckable as the Brera. The Brera will handle much better on twisties (and it really does grip and handle very well, which is especially noticeable if you have stiffer springs or get the 'S').
So of course, it depends what you want from a car. I am very glad we had a Spider, and have fond memories of it, but neither my wife or I would have one (well, another 946 Spider) again.
