Whining Tunnel

Hi folks

I constantly get a whining from the transmission tunnel that increases in pitch with speed. Sometimes you can alter it slightly by touching/moving the gearstick while in gear but it does not go away.

It is a manual 2.2, (complete with usual hesitation)!

It is going into the dealer to have a look under warranty (2nd hand) but I dont have much faith in them so want to see if anyone else has this or knows what it might be.

Thanks in advance.

That's a new one -I imagine this could be vibrating parts in contact that would ordinarily be isolated from one another or that the transmission is generating vibration frequency of sufficient magnitude to travel through the various linkages/cables to the gearstick.
